Review
Unrest by Wendy Higgins kept me reeling and gave me so much anxiety. I haven't experienced this much tension and stress in a really long time. It definitley had me feeling all the things that Wendy probably meant for the reader to feel. Unrest captured all the crazy emotions that come with a dystopian novel. After finishing it my mind still feels all kinds of messed up! I am in desperate need of the next book.
The characters in Unrest are all unique survivors that strive for their lives. After the destruction that occurred they did not give up and they keep going. Amber, the main character and the main voice of the book, is one amazing woman. She is strong and courageous. She is telling us the story and it is pretty epic seeing everything through her eyes and her thoughts. Then we have her brother Tate. He is something else and I love him. We also have Remy, Amber's best friend. She is such a delicate woman and it is hard to watch her deal with so many things. And lastly we have Rylen. This guy is everything! But he is UGH. Yep. UGH. You read that right. He is so nice but incredibly frustrating! Amber has been in love with him since the very beginning when they were kids.
We have the world destructing and aliens invading the human race. BUT this book also brings tension and romance and a little bit of hope. Hope for the future and hope for Rylen and Amber. This books is completely unlike anything I have ever read. It made me want to toss my kindle so many times. And you know what?? That is why this book is so good. It invoked so many strong emotions in me that I was feeling and living in this book. Unrest is strength, courage, love, bravery, and hope. Wendy Higgins gives you one impactful punch with this epic novel. I am dying for the next book. I need it. I can't wait to read more from Wendy Higgins. I am excited where she will take this beautiful story.
Exclusive ExcerptRemy put her head on my shoulder and I got a small but distinct whiff of chocolate. “I might have to lick you, Rem,” I blurted. Both Tater and Rylen turned to us, nearly cracking heads in the process. “She smells like chocolate,” I explained. Tater shook his head and faced forward again. Ry gave me one last bemused look before turning back too. “Hey,” Remy whispered. She raised her free hand to my face, and to my shock, there was half of the tiny candy pinched between her finger and thumb. “I saved half for you.” My heart lurched with emotion. “Are you serious?” She nodded and her chin quivered as she raised the M&M to my mouth and fed it to me. She licked her fingers off while I savored the tiny morsel. My eyes watered as I crunched down and Remy said, “Good, right?” A second later we were hugging and crying all over again. “We have to save our water,” I choked. She sniffled and let go of me to wipe her face. “No more crying.”
