[Blog Tour] Rip by Rachel Van Dyken

RIP Release Day – October 20, 2015
Pretty things aren't meant to be broken.
But I broke her, and now we both have to pay the price.I'm her nightmare.
I'm her savior.
And now that I have her signature on an ironclad contract, I own her body and soul.
She doesn't remember me.
She will.
It's inevitable.
Because as much as I know I need to stay away, for fear of unlocking the memories I helped her father bury--I can't.
She was the apple in the Garden, dangled in front of me, her core so tempting and sweet. A voice whispered. Just. One. Bite.
I bit.
I tasted.
I fell.
Welcome to the world of the Russian mafia, where death, is your only future.

Review
4.5 out of 5 stars

Rachel Van Dyken has been blowing me away with her latest releases and this book is no exception. She rocks her writing with mystery and intrigue. She always keeps me guessing and that is the one thing that I love about her books. I am always guessing what will come next and sometimes it is impossible to do so because she throws so many curves at you. Being able to have an ARC is truly an honor.

Rip gave me everything I needed. My interest was piqued with her latest book of the Eagle Elite Series, Elude. This book was so amazing and I got a peek of the doctor that is that book. Rip can be read as a standalone but I would recommend reading her Eagle Elite Series first. Everything will make more sense plus those books are amazing and it is one of my favorite series.

Rip had me since I read the blurb. I was greatly anticipating this book and it didn't disappoint. I was able to get inside the Russian Mafia and it is indeed crazy! This book starts off in a very interesting way. Nikolai has just made a deal and he now sort of owns Maya. Such a great way to start a book off with mystery! Even more so because Nikolai is very hot, kinda creepy, with a lot of mystery. I couldn't figure all of him out because he is very vague but I already loved him because in a way he was Maya's savior. Plus when I imagine him I see him as a very sexy doctor!

Now as for Maya, she is my favorite because I love that she pushes Nikolai's buttons plus she makes him smile and he needs more of that in his life. I like that she tries to question him but she is also scared because duh he does kinda own her! But other than that tiny little fact they are great together. I also figured out right away that Nikolai knows a lot more about Maya and he is hiding something. This makes the book even better because it just made me want to read faster to find out what he was hiding and how he did what he did.

He is a doctor but not your common doctor. He is doing things for the Russians so I don't completely trust him but I know he can't be that bad. As the story goes on we find out more and more about Nikolai and we even get to see some of the Italians which is great! I love them and I was glad I got to get a glimpse of them. This book advanced really well and I thought it was a great spinoff of the Eagle Elite series. It just didn't involve as much blood as I thought it would. I shared my emotions with this book and I definitely recommend it!

EXCERPT

“You,” I said simply. “It all leads to you. Everything. And I think, for now…” I leaned up, brushing my lips across his. “That’s all that matters.”
“And if I’m the key to both your survival and your destruction, what then?”
“You mean what if your water is poison?” I asked.
He didn’t answer.
“Then I want to drink.”
There were two seconds.
Two brief moments in time.
When I felt my heart race and wondered if it matched his as Nikolai took a steadying breath… then swallowed hard.
One beat against my chest, and his lips were touching mine.
Two beats as my heart picked up speed, and I could feel the heat of his mouth as he slid his tongue across my lower lip.
I moaned in response, reaching around his neck, grasping fistfuls of his hair and tugging as his body moved against mine. Without breaking the kiss, Nikolai found the hem of my cotton T-shirt, lifted it and pulled it over my head, our mouths parting for seconds before, with a sizzle of heat, they met again, and again. Each time our lips grazed it felt new, and yet familiar, like we’d shared hundreds of kisses, thousands of embraces.
He leaned back and helped me to a sitting position, his muscles flexing from holding his own weight. Moonlight shone across the planes of his firm chest. Something about Nikolai’s masculine beauty was lethal, so dangerous that my heart raced even harder. He frowned, pressing his palm to my chest as if trying to calm me down.
I wasn’t safe.

Not in his arms.
