Review

Rachel Van Dyken blew my mind away with The Dark Ones. It was so beautifully constructed and it came together greatly. This paranormal book was not something I expected from her but I am so glad she wrote it because it brought me life. I am so passionate about this book. It has been a while since I read something this great. It made me laugh, it had me scared, it made me love, and it made me fear. I felt every emotion along with the characters.  It was so unique to me and I appreciate her giving me both sides of the characters. We got to see Ethan and Genesis.

The beginning was so mysterious I didn't have a clue where The Dark Ones was going to lead me. I didn't know what kind of book it would be. There was a sense of fear pouring off of Genesis but she was also brave and strong. Genesis number was picked so she had to present herself in front of creatures that she was taught to hate. She was taught that she was nothing, that she was ugly. It was sad to see her life being belittled by her own mother. So one going in front of the individuals for the ceremony she wasn't prepared for them.

So we have a two Sirens. Alex and Stephanie who are supposed to be sensual and sexual. They are both beautiful. Heck all of them are dangerously beautiful. The werewolf Mason was one of my favorite characters. He was funny and sweet. Ethan was a vampire and Cassius was a dark one, half-angel, half-human. Right away we learned that these two had a bad history together. I liked that the immortals were scared of Cassius. He was like their leader. He also seemed mean and scary to me.

The immortals take Genesis and they fear for her life. They have gone through a lot and they don't want another human to die because of Cassius so they try to mark her to take away what Cassius did to her. They all try but Ethan is the one that in the end covers Cassius mark with his own. Ethan has a bad past so he didn't want to do this but in the end he does and now Genesis is his mate.

Ethan and Genesis together we a deadly combination! They were so attracted to one another and it was great! Those were some of the best scenes. It kept a smile on my face. I also like Mason he was so cute. The whole steak/berries/pinecone scenes were hilarious. The jokes between the immortals was one of the best parts. I liked that they got along. I also liked that glimpses from the past were shown.

Since Ethan bit her I was hooked. I didn't know if Genesis was going to die, live, or turn immortal. The rest of this book is crazy and it has a lot of elements that shocked me! There were so many surprised and new characters that later showed up. It was beyond exciting. I couldn't stop reading this book. The words and where the book was leading was to good to put down. It surprised me how much I came to love it. Speaking of it now just makes me bubble with excitement. I really really recommend this book. There should be more books coming and this book set up the next one perfectly. It had enough intrigue and surprise to have you anticipating it. Go purchase this book now because it is definitely a must read!
