Anomaly Book Tour and ARC Review

Release Date: 11/25/14
Entangled Teen

Summary from Goodreads:
Reality is only an illusion.
Except for those who can control it…

Worst. Birthday. Ever.
My first boyfriend dumped me – happy birthday, Josie!- my dad is who knows where, I have some weird virus that makes me want to hurl, and now my ex is licking another girl’s tonsils. Oh, and I’m officially the same age as my brother was when he died. Yeah, today is about as fun-filled as the swamps of Dagobah. But then weird things start happening…
Like I make something materialize just by thinking about it.

When hot badass Reid Wentworth shows up on a motorcycle, everything changes. Like, everything. Who I am. My family. What really happened to my brother. Existence. I am Oculi, and I have the ability to change reality with my thoughts. Now Reid, in all his hotness, is charged with guiding and protecting me as I begin learning how to bend reality. And he’s the only thing standing between me and the secret organization that wants me dead…

My Review
*5 out of 5 stars*

Words to describe this book: fresh, intriguing, captivating, new, different, unique, and funny

Tonya Kuper blew me away with this novel and it is her debut novel! I couldn't believe that it was her first book. Way to start off Tonya! This book was incredible from the start. It starts off pretty quickly and I liked that. Reid *sigh* and Santos come in right away. I thought it was going to be a normal book but then I'm hit with the truth. Reid reveals that they are Oculi and they have the ability to change reality with their thoughts. This is the first book I have read like this. It usually is vampires, werewolves, or something like that. I am glad that this was something totally different than what I have read before and that is why it is so intriguing.

So, poor Josie is hit with everything on her birthday. Her boyfriend breaks up with her and she finds out that her life has been a lie. So yeah, not a good birthday for her. Reid is sent to be Josie's trainer and he is also there to protect her from the Consortium peoples that are trying to hurt/kill her. Reid is the perfect man for that because he is an Anomaly. This means that he can both Push and Retract. Ok, so let me explain this. You can Push objects (ice cream, hot wheels, or popcorn) but you can't push the living or the dead. That is you can make objects appear if you have a clear picture of what you want. Now Retracting is the opposite. This allows you to make objects disappear. Most Oculi have one power, which is either to Push or Retract. Anomalies can do both just like Reid and Josie.

I though this was pretty awesome but of course there is a side effect to this. You can't Push or Retract too much because you get headaches, nausea, or nosebleeds. That is little compared to the fact that there is a limit as to how long you can do this. Many lose their Oculi abilities early on or you go berserks. Like totally crazy. So yeah, not cool. So the Consortium thinks that you should only have one ability so they tried to eliminate all anomalies but failed. This created the Resistance and they are trying to save themselves and humanity. Reid and Santos are a part of this. Reid is training Josie to be a part of the Resistance.

Josie, is one powerful chick. I mean I don't really want to tell you much because you need to find out for yourselves. So the events in this book happened in a short amount of time. Like a few days. So we find out a lot like in a week or so but it feels like a long time. I was really impressed by this book and I really really recommend it. I just wanted to say that I felt betrayed, angry, sad, and I felt the power of Josie. She is a fun character and very powerful. I am glad I had the opportunity to get this ARC. Now to wait until November 2015 for the second book is going to be torture. It doesn't end on a cliffhanger but I really want to know what happens next. So please go get this book now!
