Fire and Flood

5 out of 5 stars
"I know he would do it for me. He wouldn't even hesitate. Despite all his irritating qualities, I've always thought of him as courageous."
Blown Away! :o I have this bad
habit of buying a book reading about 20% then starting another one. I currently
have 15 books that are on this “on hold” status; but as soon as Victoria
Scott’s Fire & Flood arrived on my kindle I could not put it down. I
started reading at about 7a.m. and finished around 2 p.m. Seriously, I was
utterly entranced! There is just so much… *waving hands around exaggeratingly
in the air* gosh I don’t even have a proper word for it! This book has
everything: action, sci-fi, friendship, animals, great values/morals, family,
and romance. I think I may have a new fictional boyfriend (swoon)! Love you
Guy! I really liked how even though this took place in a reasonably short
period of time, the romance was so well developed. I didn’t feel like this
thing with Tella and Guy was rushed or forced at all. Tella is a wonderfully
thought out character and absolutely relatable, especially to me. She is such a
girl, and as you can hopefully already tell, I am the epitome of girly. She is
just this regular girl thrown into a horrible set of circumstances. For a
regular girl originally from Boston, I think she does pretty well. She is
launched into this situation where she puts the life of a loved one ahead of
her own. I understand exactly why she does it. There is nothing, and I truly
mean nothing, I would not do for my family. I really loved that Ms. Scott
talked about the value of family. There has been only a handful of YA and NA
literature that I’ve read that makes family a sort of priority in the book. Oh!
The animals! They are adorable and such a wonderful contribution to the book.
The minor characters involved in this book were also brilliant. They all have
their own stories. I’m kind of scared at how much I should say, without giving
anything away so… I think I’ll stop here.
I really hope there is going to be another book, if not I think I might
actually cry (I’m being serious, ask my family/friends). Anywho… READ IT!
Thanks Ms. Scott!

Goodreads Description
Time is slipping away....
Tella Holloway is losing it. Her brother is sick, and
when a dozen doctors can't determine what's wrong, her parents decide to move
to Montana for the fresh air. She's lost her friends, her parents are driving
her crazy, her brother is dying—and she's helpless to change anything.
Until
she receives mysterious instructions on how to become a Contender in the
Brimstone Bleed. It's an epic race across jungle, desert, ocean, and mountain
that could win her the prize she desperately desires: the Cure for her
brother's illness. But all the Contenders are after the Cure for people they
love, and there's no guarantee that Tella (or any of them) will survive the
race.
The jungle is terrifying, the clock is ticking, and Tella knows she can't
trust the allies she makes. And one big question emerges: Why have so many
fallen sick in the first place?
Victoria Scott's breathtaking novel grabs
readers by the throat and doesn't let go.
