[Review] Scion (Supernaturals Book 3) by Kelly Oram

Russ Devereaux used to have it all—loving father, beautiful best friend, a carefree life in a town he loved, and strong magic. He was the king of his happy universe. Five months ago, that life was taken from him. Do not pass Go. Do not collect two hundred dollars.

He’s spent months fighting back and building himself a new life, in a new city, with new friends he now considers family. But suddenly, his new life might be in jeopardy of getting shot straight to hell just like the last one. Literally, this time.

He’s discovered power inside of him—an ancient, dark power that he shouldn’t have, can’t explain, can’t control, and definitely needs to keep secret. He needs answers, but before he can get them, he finds himself arrested and on his way to face the supernatural council. The same council that stole everything from him the first time.

As Russ struggles to keep his new power under wraps, his old life and he new one are about to collide and it’s bound to be explosive. He may not have all the answers he needs, but one thing is certain: he’ll be damned if anyone is taking his new life from him. That is, if he’s not just plain damned.

4 out of 5 stars

Kelly Oram has done it again! Her third book in the Supernaturals installment is yet another hit. This book is told through the point of view of Russ Devereaux, good friend of both Dani and Grace. If you don’t know who they are or what I’m talking about, then obviously you have to read the first two books!

So… in this book we find out why Russ is so special, and why he has an instant connection with both Grace and Dani. I love that even though this is Russ’s story, we still get to see the story of the other characters in the series progress. So yes! We do get more of Dani, Gabriel, Grace, Ethan, and all the other people we’ve fallen in love with! I get to appreciate the awesomeness of the guy that is Russ Devereaux even more in this book. He’s so witty and completely funny, it’s hard not to fall for him!
“The worst kind of villain is the one who truly believes he’s doing the right thing.”
Russ’s character does some serious unraveling in this book. We have the return of Alex, which of course has some grave implications for Russ. Even though Alex is a big time poopy face (for lack of a better term) and he turns to a bigger one in this book, he does come in handy for answering questions Russ can’t get anywhere else. We also get some insight as to why Russ hates Clara when they are forced together in this book. So for all the answers we get, we get the same amount of questions back. It’s cool though, it keeps me on my toes which I totally enjoy!

“’What?’ Dani hissed. ‘How exactly, would you like me to do that, Russell? Do a little song and dance?”
I grinned at her. ‘I said distract, not torture.’”

I love Ms. Oram’s sense of humor. She makes me laugh every single time, and this book was no exception. Russ is the comedian of the group, which makes this book that much funnier! Kelly Oram’s writing takes us seamlessly through the world of the supernaturals, and I am really happy to say it’s another one of my favorites from her.
