[Review] Make Me Sin by J.T. Geissinger

Geissinger-MakeMeSin-19399-CV-FT-V3 (1)About MAKE ME SIN

Chloe Carmichael’s life feels pretty sweet—she’s both maid of honor and florist for her best friend’s A-list wedding, things are getting serious with her boyfriend, and her flower shop is about to get a spread in a national magazine. But it all quickly turns sour whenever the best man, Bad Habit drummer A.J. Edwards, shows his face…his handsome, unforgettable face. A.J. is everything Chloe doesn’t want: tattooed, selfish, and all-around bad news. So why can’t she stop thinking about him? Goody two-shoes Chloe isn’t exactly A.J.’s type, either, but the chemistry between them is undeniable. A.J. will be the first to say he isn’t a saint, but there’s something he’s not saying—something that would devastate Chloe. The only way he can protect her is to push her away, but the drummer finds he needs her now more than ever. When a wedding-day confrontation reveals secrets they’re both hiding, will Chloe and A.J. ever find their rhythm again?

My Thoughts
J. T. Geissinger does an amazing job with this book. It is unexpected passion. In the beginning, Chloe and A.J. hate each other. They can't stand to see each other but the attraction shines through. Well, at least for Chloe. I got to read her thoughts and I knew she wanted A.J. As for A.J. I didn't get a clear read on him right away. He is mean to Chloe and he sparks her on but we get the clue that he likes her because other characters clue us in. A.J. is hot! He is in a band but no one knows anything about him, this adds to the mystery. As I got to know A.J. more I loved him. I loved that the author made him a feminist! That was so amazing. Never in books is it really talked about so this was a great change. The whole book had a lot of these punches critiquing societies views. I loved watching out for those!

"You defend them! You not only defend them, you have empathy for them, too!
And you think women who aren't being paid for it should be able to sleep with whoever they want, without being slut-shamed!"
"Your point being?"
"You're a feminist!"

As much as I loved A.J., at times I hated him. He spoke to Chloe harshly in hopes of getting away from her. He didn't want to be loved. He was wounded. He wanted to be alone and he didn't let no one in unless he paid for them. He was a tortured soul but he wouldn't let us in! We knew nothing about him. He didn't want to let Chloe in because he feared that once she knew everything, she would leave. One of the things I loved the most is that the author gave us little glimpses of A.J. She let us in his head. It was a few times but it was enough to help us better understand him. I loved these parts the most! I was equal parts mesmerized and equal parts scared!

"I'm transfixed. I'm fused to the floor. I'm hot, and cold, and thrilled, and scared.
I think he's the most glorious and also the most frightening thing I've ever seen."

Chloe had problems of her own. She started off with a boyfriend but she didn't love him. Things happened, she couldn't get A.J. out of her head and things ended badly. This led to sweet, sweet A.J. He was her hero here. This is the part where he was the most caring person. I started falling for him here. And this next quote right here? It literally should melt your heart!

"He gently wipes my sweaty forehead with cold cloths, He buys me ever available type of cold and flu medication. he frets over me fluffing pillows and smoothing blankets worrying about every sneeze and sniffle. When I'm too weak to sit up to feed myself he props me against his chest and spoon-feeds me chicken soup or organic ice cream he bought from the health store. He even reads to me. THere's a moldering library on the first floor, and in it he finds a copy of The Princess Bride. He spends hours sitting next to me on the bed, reading our loud, doing all the different parts in different voices."

The whole book had you wanting more. It had you wanting more A.J. and more of his past. It was surprising and nothing you expect when A.J. finally reveals his secret. Not only that, but then later on in the book another bomb gets thrown and everything starts making sense. It leaves you spinning and in tears. It was harsh but it made the book so unexpectedly good. J.T. Geissinger made Make Me Sin a book of surprise and a couple that could withstand so much of the past, the present, and the future.
