[Review] Unknown by Wendy Higgins

Amber Tate believes the worst thing she’ll suffer in life is dealing with the unrequited love she feels for her brother’s best friend, Rylen Fite. She also believes war is something unfortunate that happens places far, far away from her rural Nevada town. She’s wrong on both counts. When an unknown organization meticulously bombs major cities in the United States and across the globe, a trickle-down effect spreads to remaining towns at an alarming speed—everything from food and water sources to technology and communications are compromised. Without leadership, the nation is split between paralysis and panic, but Amber isn’t one to hide or watch helplessly. She’s determined to put her nursing skills to use, despite the danger, even if it means working alongside the man she can never have.
In this first installment of NY Times bestselling author, Wendy Higgins’s debut New Adult series, a frighteningly realistic apocalyptic America is brought to life, entwined with searing romantic tension that will leave you eager for more.

Review
Unknown by Wendy Higgins kept me up all night. This book made me crazy and I needed to know all the things. Wendy Higgins did amazing in setting up this book. I was seeing everything this book had to offer right in the inside of my head. I was seeing the scenes and the characters in my head. She made it feel so real, like it was happening right in the here and now. I loved every bit of this story. It drove me crazy and mad and I wanted all the words.

So here is the thing, Wendy creates a world that is good, but destruction is happening all around. It starts off small. As the book advances we see destruction so severe and it made me feel scared and helpless for these characters. We don't know what is happening because he characters don't know either. So it is mystery and we are trying to solve things along with the characters. We do get a little insight at the beginning, with the prologue. It is not much though. I thought that was perfect that Wendy Higgins did it that way because it goes well with the story.

We have such a close knit family. We have Amber and Tate, who are brother and sister, and then we have the friends, Remy and Rylen. And their families are part of this as well. We see them through various years and I got to see the characters grow up. It was so fun to watch and it didn't feel rushed at all. That is the awesomeness of Wendy Higgins. She wrote it perfectly. When the destruction happens these characters stick together.

We have so much going on at the same time but we also get a little big of hope and a love story. Kind of. Amber has been in love with Rylen since they were kids. Rylen is blind and makes me angry and so does Amber. They are so close but Amber never admits her feelings to him. So what happens in this book made me so angry and sad and mostly angry. I love that we get this intertwined story of their love life and the story of these humans trying to save the world and figuring out what exactly is happening.

Unknown had me up all night reading and consuming these words. I was captivated by this story and I don't understand how I didn't pick this book up sooner. As soon as I finished I devoured the next book two and now I am waiting for the next book because I need it!
