Review
Lucas by Jay McLean is a book that will make you go through every emotion possible. It will make you feel a million things all at the same time. You don't experience Lucas, you live it. Jay McLean doesn't mess around with her books. She will destroy you. She has a way with words and she is the best at it. She is such an incredible author that she makes you want to be in her stories. They are so brilliantly written that it feels like you are Lucas and Laney. Every sad and angst filled moment was a blow to the heart that killed me. All the happy emotions melted me as if I was experiencing it myself. With each book she writes and releases, each one keeps getting better and better. Lucas is now one of my favorite books this year. There is no doubt about it that this book has taken one of the top spots of all time.
Diving in I knew that I needed to prepare myself, but how can you prepare yourself for LUCAS?! Well the answer is that you can try, but that won't help you. You will still feel every emotions there is. I knew what was coming because we saw it in the companion book, More Than Forever, but I wasn't expecting it to have such an impact. It was overwhelming. That is there perfect word for this book. OVERWHELMING. But shame on me. I know Jay McLean exceeds all expectations, but this one takes the cake. This book made me feel like I was repeatedly stabbing myself in the heart with a knife. Stab. Stab. Stab. I still can't even process everything. My heart. My tears. My Lucas. My Laney. My everything. Gah. This is just too much and not enough.
Lucas was not perfect. I had no clue what he was going to be like but I did not expect what I got. It was perfect. He is flawed and amazing, and a big dummy. PERFECTION. I don't know how many times I wanted to just hurt him and open his eyes. There is not even enough words to describe him. Laney, was unbelievably amazing. She was an amazing character and possibly my favorite. The Preston brothers, all of them, were so much. SO MUCH. They were trouble, but even then it was like love at first sight. All of them are unique and amazing in their own right. All the other characters were good too. I don't think anyone is as amazing as Jay McLean and her supporting characters. She writes them so well. They serve a purpose and they are never insignificant. Major compliment right there. No one writes like her.
I don't think I will ever be able to stop talking about this book. I want everyone to read it. It is a must read book. I never have book hangovers. Ever. This book made me pause. Made me think about life and how important it is. This is a huge deal. I went a whole day and a half without reading! That just doesn't happen to me. When I finished a book I just pick up the next one and start. No big deal. Not this time. I couldn't do anything with my life because Lucas consumed every part of my mind, body, and soul. When a books does that, you know it's beyond great, it is life changing. Jay McLean is just too good for her own good. I hope she never stops letting the words flow because to me her books are the world.
