[ Blogiversary ] Author Interview: Kate Canterbary

Author Interview: Kate Canterbary

Ahhh! Today we have Kate Canterbary with us here at T & G Book Boutique! I have always heard the best things about you and I have read the first book in your series, Underneath It All and I LOVE it. Thank you for being here! I have a few questions for you, so lets get started.

First off, tell us a little bit about yourself!

I'm mom to a toddler girl, wife to an adult (sometimes) man, secret agent and writer of steamy contemporary romance. Right now, I'm writing The Walshes, an interconnected series of standalones following a family of architects living in Boston. My books fall on the sexy, funny, not-super-heavy angsty side.

What inspired you to write?

I've always had stories wandering around my mind, and after my little one was born, I found myself with long, exhausted hours spent nursing, rocking, and changing. I started building those stories, and typing my ideas while the baby slept on my shoulder.

Tell us a little bit about your books.

I write The Walsh Series, a contemporary romance series that follows a family of architects living and working in Boston. While this family has its share of shadows and scars, they put the 'fun' in dysfunctional.

Did you put pieces of yourself in your characters or are they unique to themselves?

I have a huge, noisy, drunken, embarrassing, hysterical, profane, devoted extended family, and every single one of them is equal parts balls-out insane and brilliant at all times. I also grew up involved in the family business, and those experiences help me hear many of the interactions between the Walshes. And yes, my family does prefer yelling and swearing to any conventional form of discussion.

What are you working on now?

I have a few secret projects on deck at the moment, and I'm starting work on Erin's story, book six in The Walsh Series, THE SPIRE.

What is your favorite hobby other than reading?

I watch reruns of Grey's Anatomy on Lifetime.
I talk about cows and turtles (she thinks they're natural friends) with my toddler, Baby Canterbary.
I indulge Mr. Canterbary's desire to sample all the fried fish joints along the New England coast (and much like Andy, I sit there while he eats and drink beer).
And I read and write…a lot.

Tell us an embarrassing story?!

The first time my husband (then boyfriend) and I tried cooking with a wok, we set a small fire in our apartment – complete with alarms and firefighters. We've opted for Thai take-out since then.

If you had to pick between reading or writing what would you choose?

I'd have to go with reading.

If you could be any animal what would you choose and why?

I really have no idea. I'm better with humans. I couldn't tell you what kind of tree I'd be either, sadly.

Tell us one weird or interesting thing about you?

I have home remedies for everything. You've heard about the coconut oil, right? If not…THE CORNERSTONE. Get there!

What book could you read over and over again?

I've been a voracious reader forever, and many books have left their marks on me. Can't pick just one. Here are a few:
East of Eden by John Steinbeck (…and Cannery Row, Sweet Thursday, Tortilla Flats)
Keep Me Still by Caisey Quinn
Nine Stories by JD Salinger
The Witness by Nora Roberts (and so many others)
The Rough Riders Series by Lorelei James
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Veiled Innocence by Ella Frank
The Beautiful Series by Christina Lauren
The Vegas Top Guns Series by Katie Porter
The Sullivans Series by Belle Andre

Thank you so much for answering our questions Kate! I am so happy to have learned a little bit more about you. I can’t wait to continue reading the Walshes. I do have to say that I favor Riley the most. He is something else!

If I had known I'd have a hot architect balls deep inside of me before the end of the weekend, I'd have made time for a pedicure.

Lauren
It's all the little things—the action plans, the long-kept promises—that started falling apart when my life slipped into controlled chaos.
After I met Matthew Walsh.
I couldn't decide whether I wanted to run screaming or rip his pants off, and most days I wanted a little of both. If I was being honest with myself, it was rip his pants off, ride him like a workhorse, and then run screaming.
Matthew
A rebellious streak ran through Lauren Halsted. It was fierce and unrelentingly beautiful, and woven through too many good girl layers to count, and she wasn't letting anyone tell her what to do.
Unless, of course, she was naked.
She wasn't looking for me and I sure as shit wasn't looking for her, but we found each other anyway and now we were locked in a battle of wills, waiting for the other to blink.
Sometimes the universe conspires to bring people together. Other times, it throws people down a flight of stairs and leaves them in a bruised and bloodied heap.
