Love, Rosie

Love, Rosie by Cecelia Ahern

Goodreads Description

Rosie and Alex are destined for one another, and everyone seems to know it but them. Best friends since childhood, their relationship gets closer by the day, until Alex gets the news that his family is leaving Dublin and moving to Boston. At 17, Rosie and Alex have just started to see each other in a more romantic light. Devastated, the two make plans for Rosie to apply to colleges in the U.S.

She gets into Boston University, Alex gets into Harvard, and everything is falling into place, when on the eve of her departure, Rosie gets news that will change their lives forever: She's pregnant by a boy she'd gone out with while on the rebound from Alex.

Her dreams for college, Alex, and a glamorous career dashed, Rosie stays in Dublin to become a single mother, while Alex pursues a medical career and a new love in Boston. But destiny is a funny thing, and in this novel, structured as a series of clever e-mails, letters, notes, and a trail of missed opportunities, Alex and Rosie find out that fate isn't done with them yet.

Review

Well for today’s review, I have decided to take a look at a blast from the past. The book I am about to tell you about is not a new release. This book has been out for eight years now, I believe. I chose this book for a review for two very different reasons: 1) I have been super busy with school, work, dance, life in general, that I have not had a chance to read any new books, sadly :( This has left me very book deprived *shed tear*. 2) I must have been living in a cave for the last few months, because I just realized yesterday that there will be a movie based on this book to be released next month! (Saw the trailer and it looks absolutely fab!) Except it will only come out in theaters pretty much everywhere else but here! So I thought “hey why not take this book and reminisce on old times since the movie won't be shown in the US.” That is exactly what I have done!  I first read this book my freshman year in high school, which was approximately 7 years ago. Man I feel old! Anyways… I fell absolutely head over heals in love with this book. To this day I have not been able to find a book with the same quality of uniqueness. It is just so different and that is exactly what makes it so special! The book is told though a series of letters, emails, instant messages, postcards, and text messages. Alex and Rosie, the two main characters, have such great chemistry. Even when they are in a bit of a tiff, they always seem to be there for one another. Their friendship and love for one another is definitely one for the books. You can seriously feel the anxiety, pain, happiness, shame, and every other emotion you can think of right through the pages. It is such a wonderful story of love, hate, passion, forgiveness, courage, fate, and so much more. This book took me on a rollercoaster of emotions. I never felt sated and was always wondering where the journey would take Alex, Rosie, and the rest of the characters. There is no possible way for anybody not to enjoy this book. Definitely a book you MUST READ! So go out and get to reading!

“Life is funny isn’t it? Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, just when you finally begin to plan something, and feel like you know what direction you’re heading in, the paths change, the signs change, the wind blows the other way, north is suddenly south, and east is west, and you’re lost. It is so easy to lose your way, to lose direction. And that’s with following all the signposts.”
Here are two trailers for the book to movie coming out in October in the UK :)
